مكة المكرمة والمدينة المنورة

Umrah is a spiritual journey every Muslim hopes to make, and knowing the rites before you travel makes it easier and more peaceful. This guide summarises the essential steps — always refer to the accompanying religious supervisor for any detail.

1. Ihram at the Miqat

The pilgrim performs ghusl and puts on the Ihram garments before the Miqat. Travellers flying from Egypt usually enter Ihram before passing the Miqat, and the cabin crew announces it. Then make the intention for Umrah and begin the Talbiyah.

2. Tawaf

Tawaf starts at the Black Stone: seven circuits with the Kaaba on your left, making whatever supplications you can. After Tawaf, pray two rak'ahs behind Maqam Ibrahim if possible.

3. Sa'i between Safa and Marwah

Seven laps starting at Safa and ending at Marwah. The distance is fairly long, so wear comfortable shoes; wheelchairs are available for the elderly.

4. Shaving or Trimming

Men shave or trim their hair and women cut a fingertip's length; with this the Umrah is complete and the pilgrim leaves Ihram.

Practical Tips

  • Drink water constantly — Zamzam water is available throughout the Haram.
  • Choose less crowded times for Tawaf, such as mid-morning.
  • Always carry a copy of your passport and your hotel card.
  • Save the supervisor's and our office's numbers on your phone.
